Do your investments need to be restructured to offset the loss of miscellaneous deductions? Will the state/local tax deduction cap negatively impact you? These are all important questions that can not be neglected when looking at your taxes this year.
3. Identify Opportunities with Taxes in Retirement

Successful people don’t rely on luck. They understand the importance of identifying opportunities that may be available. But how do you do that? The answer is: if you are working with the right person, you don’t need to. For example, let’s say I have a leak in my basement. I could go on the internet and research how to fix the problem myself. I could borrow or buy some tools and materials, and after some blood sweat and tears, I may have a dry basement….at least for now. Or, I could call my plumber and have him come out and fix the problem correctly and efficiently. I would know that the job was done right, and I could call him if I had any problems.
This is similar to working with the correct financial advisor. He should show you if the new tax changes will bring about opportunities for you, because this should be a part of his job. A financial professional that works as a fiduciary will help you hone in on and take advantage of these strategies.
